Breakfast like a King

The summer holidays are racing towards us and soon (if not already) you may be wondering how your little ones eat so much! This catches us out every holiday if I’m truly honest so I thought it was time I did some research…
The phrase “Breakfast Like a King, Lunch Like a Prince, and Dine Like a Pauper” came to mind and I wondered if there was anything in it. I have since discovered that a higher calorific breakfast can actually help prevent cravings through the day and late night munching. I suppose it stands to reason that you have been fasting all night while you are asleep so your brain wants you to refuel as efficiently as possible. So maybe I shouldn’t stop them asking for chocolate cake?lemon cake
“When you wake up, your brain needs energy immediately,” said Jakubowicz, whose book “The Big Breakfast Diet” became a bestseller. “This is the time of the day when your body converts food into energy. Later in the day, when you eat, your body and brain are still in high-alert mode, saving the energy from food as fat reserve. This is how you gain weight even eating less.”
Ok so on to lunch. Now if I’m honest I’m rubbish at this bit. The kids normally have school dinners so I have no idea how much they eat. The answer being, generally, more than I think or plan for. I don’t always remember to eat lunch myself so it’s not something I have readily to hand. Time to think… “lunch like a Prince”. We need something substantial that will fill us up but that is smaller than breakfast and isn’t too heavy, no one wants to fall asleep more fuel the brain! A jacket potato and baked beans, I’m sure they will love that or peanut butter sandwiches.
However, we can’t be royal all day long otherwise we will end up with a right royal waistline. Maybe this is the time I should be serving cereals and toast? Or boiled eggs and solidiers? Actually, eggs are a great source of protein and brilliant for filling you up so that’s the answer. It appears I’ve been getting the day all upside down. So who’s with me for a slice of chocolate cake for breakfast?
Why not post a slice to a friend and help them with the best diet in town 😉
