Food Trends Report reliably informs us the bundt cakes are sustained risers, funfetti cakes are rising stars and that red velvet cakes are seasonal decliners and Gluten-free cup cakes are sustianed decliners but what does this all mean to cake fashion? And what do our taste buds tell us we really like?
The answer is that this is wonderfully not to do with fashion although it is to do with trends. There are many things in fashion that piques our interest but that we don’t actually want to try. How about protein bars made from insects? Nutrional, I’m sure and something that I may try at the end of a long run but maybe more because I was starving! However, what we Google really shows what we are looking to get from these interests. Are we searching recipes orcake wrecks?
One thing that seems to be true though is we want to know more about things we can do ourselves. With this in mind here’s a quick recipe for a rising star candidate the mug cake. A quick fix indulgency that we can all manage. 4 tbsp self raising flour
4 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp cocoa powder
3 tbsp milk
3 tbsp sunflower oil
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Mix all the dry ingredients together in your cup then add the wet.Combine until smooth. Then microwave for 3-4 minutes on high (this bit really is dependent on your microwave). Be careful the handle may well be too hot to touch now but enjoy the scrumptuousness you have created!
